Quietyears RECORDS & READING
A hand-bound notebook resting on a quiet desk

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Reading and organising your retirement paperwork, one session at a time.

Quietyears holds educational and organisational sessions for retirees and their families — sessions that walk through publicly available materials, help label household documents, and log records for years ahead. Nothing is interpreted or individually advised upon; everything is read together, at a considered pace.

Our Programmes

Three ways to keep your records in order.

Each programme is organisational in nature. No individual situation is addressed or interpreted. The sessions walk through publicly available information, help participants set up their own filing systems, and maintain long-term reading logs. Sessions are conducted in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

The session walks through how to label sections, how to log dates of public-source updates the participant chooses to follow, and how to maintain a long-term reading log. The session is purely organisational. It does not interpret documents or address individual situations.

  • Label and section a personal notebook for household records
  • Log dates and source references for public documents you follow

Why Quietyears

What sets these sessions apart.

Unhurried Pacing

Sessions are timed for reading and reflection, not for covering a quota of slides. Each section is read completely before moving forward.

Source-Only References

Every document discussed is publicly available. Participants are given the exact page and source, so they can return to it at any time independently.

Organisational, Not Advisory

Nothing in our sessions constitutes advice on individual situations. We label, list, file, and log — the reading and decisions remain entirely with the participant.

Local to Kuala Lumpur

Sessions are held in our Brickfields office — a quiet, accessible location close to public transport in central KL, designed for comfortable, extended reading.

Small Group Sizes

Group reading sessions are kept small so that every participant has space to read at their own pace and raise questions about the text, not personal circumstances.

Tangible Folder Outputs

Each programme ends with something physical: a labelled notebook, a printed reading log, or a structured folder — a reference the household can return to over many years.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What exactly happens in a session?

Each session is built around reading. The session leader places a publicly available document on the table, reads it aloud section by section, and invites participants to follow along in their own copy. The leader may point to a page or paragraph to note a definition or a date; they do not interpret how that page applies to any individual in the room. After reading, participants may note relevant sections in their own log.

Do I need to bring anything to the first session?

For the Personal Notebook Setup, the materials are provided at the session — a blank notebook and a set of labelling guides are included in the programme fee. For the Group Reading Programme, participants are asked to bring a pen and a folder for loose documents. For the Yearly Family Records Programme, the initial session requires nothing from participants; the household folder is assembled during the programme.

How long does each session last?

The Personal Notebook Setup runs for two hours. Group Reading Programme sessions are scheduled for ninety minutes each, four times across the year. Family Records Programme sessions vary: the initial setup session is approximately two and a half hours; follow-up and closing sessions are ninety minutes each.

Where are sessions held?

All sessions are held at our office at No. 49, Jalan Tun Sambanthan 3, Brickfields, 50470 Kuala Lumpur. The location is accessible by KTM Komuter and LRT from most parts of the Klang Valley. Parking is available nearby. We do not currently conduct remote sessions.

Can a family member accompany a participant?

For the Personal Notebook Setup and Group Reading Programme, a single accompanying family member is welcome to sit in and follow the same reading materials. For the Yearly Family Records Programme, the programme is designed specifically for the whole household and all household members are encouraged to attend each session.

What documents are read during the Group Reading Programme?

The programme selects one publicly available document per quarter, drawn from sources such as the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) member handbook, the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) guide, or other materials published by Malaysian government agencies. The specific documents for each year are listed on a reference sheet given at enrolment. None of these documents is summarised or paraphrased; they are read in full.

Is my information kept private?

Enquiry and enrolment details are held only for scheduling and correspondence purposes and are not shared with third parties. Participants are not asked to bring or share personal financial documents during sessions. The sessions deal with publicly available reading materials only. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
